A.B. 190 An act relating to construction; revising the requirements pursuant to which a contractor or subcontractor engaged on a public work may discharge his or her obligation to pay prevailing wages to workers…
Prevailing Wage
This bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Skip Daly and signed into law on May 25, 2019, lowers the threshold above which prevailing wages for public projects apply, from $250,000 to $100,000, and requires 100% of prevailing wages be paid for school construction projects, which was previously set at 90%.
Why it matters to working people.
Prevailing wage laws serve as a wage floor and ensure a level playing field for workers and contractors alike. It ensures construction projects are top-quality by using highly skilled and well-trained workers to complete projects on time and on budget.
