About Joy

Rep. Joy Garratt has represented New Mexico’s 29th District since 2019, where she is a member of the Education, and the Transportation, Public Works and Capital Improvements committees.

Garratt is a lifelong teacher and mentor and currently serves as an instructional coach. A member of the AFT, Garratt has championed recent legislation that provides a framework for the first time in New Mexico for the widespread implementation of community schools. She also sponsored legislation that provides scholarships for public school teaching assistants who want to pursue a teaching degree.

Garratt is the proud mother of a son and lives in Santa Fe with her husband.
